All hail’s breaking loose

Filed under: Television — pauljlane @ 8:41 pm

Buffalo’s in the news again for its weather – but it’s not snow this time.

I was home watching Penny Monday afternoon when the freak hail storm hit the Buffalo region Monday afternoon. I’d never seen anything like it, and Penny loved hearing the hail balls bounce off the awning.

Even so, though, was there really nothing better going on than hail? It led off the 5 p.m. newscasts, with one station going live to some loser’s house who saved the hail in a cooler to show his family.

The whole thing makes me regret to call these people my fellow hometowners. Hail happens. It’s ice that falls frozen to Earth. Not that big a deal, really, even if it doesn’t fall much here.

Of course, the extremely lazy TV news proceeded to show viewer-submitted pictures of the hail, an easy way to fill airspace without spending any money (viewers, do our work for free!) All in all, a horrible waste of valuable time.

Oh yeah, the hail melted within the hour.

  1. I’m sure the TV people are just as proud to call you a Western New Yorker, Paul.
