NHL ends season on high ratings note

Filed under: Television — pauljlane @ 2:32 pm

The following was released this afternoon by NBC, which claimed the best game 6 ratings in eight years for NHL hockey in Wednesday’s 3-2 series-clinching win by Detroit over Pittsburgh. Once again, Buffalo was the highest non-participating city in terms of viewership of the game.
Last night’s deciding Game 6 of the Stanley Cup Final on NBC earned a 4.4 overnight rating and a 7 share (8-11 p.m. ET), the best overnight rating for a Stanley Cup Final Game 6 in eight years (2000 – New Jersey-Dallas, 5.2/11), a 100 percent increase over Game 6 of the 2006 Final (Edmonton-Carolina, 2.2/4) and the best for an NHL game on NBC since NBC reacquired the NHL in 2004. The rating peaked at a 5.3/9 from 10:30-11 p.m. ET.
“Two great teams, at the top of their game, generated significant interest,” said NBC Sports President Ken Schanzer. “Hopefully this provides a launching point for future growth. We can’t wait for our season to begin, somewhere outdoors, next season.”
WEDNESDAY’S TOP 10 MARKETS:
1. Pittsburgh, 37.4/51
2. Detroit, 30.6/45
3. Buffalo, 10.9/16
4. Denver, 6.6/11
5. St. Louis, 5.7/9
6. Richmond, 5.6/9
T7. Philadelphia, 5.5/9
T7. Columbus, 5.5/9
T9. Minneapolis, 5.1/10
T9. Fort Myers, 5.1/10
